Biography[]
Pre-Joining[]
Zosia grew up in or near Gdańsk, Poland. She has alluded to coming from an economically disadvantaged background. She described being around ten years old when "the country had opened up," possibly referring to Poland's transition from a planned economy into a market economy in 1989-1991.
Zosia had at least one serious romantic relationship, though her partner never became an Other. Zosia confirmed that this partner died a long time before the Joining occurred. (La Chica o El Mundo)
At the time of the Joining, Zosia was in Tangier, Morocco for unknown reasons.
Post-Joining[]
Zosia was selected by the hive mind to serve as their liaison to Carol due to her resemblance to Carol's character, Raban. In Carol's Winds of Wycaro novel series, Raban is the male love interest of the female protagonist. However, due to Helen's memories, the Others knew that Carol, a lesbian, had originally intended to write Raban as a woman. Thus, they selected Zosia, a woman resembling Raban. (Pirate Lady)
As a sort of ambassador, Zosia was sent to fulfill the Others' goal of ensuring Carol's happiness. She answered Carol's questions, helped to meet her basic needs, and relayed her requests to the Others. (Pirate Lady)
When Carol realized that the Others had accessed Helen's knowledge in sending Zosia, she was initially furious at what she viewed as an enormous violation of her privacy and disrespect for Helen's memory. Carol's screaming outrage towards Zosia caused every single Other to seize and seemingly "shut down" for at least several minutes. Worldwide, this resulted in the deaths of 11 million Others. (Pirate Lady)
Carol gradually grew accustomed to having Zosia around and tentatively accepted her presence. As Raban is a pirate, she called Zosia "pirate lady," never asking for her real name. Carol eventually learned her name from Koumba Diabaté as she got to know Zosia. (Pirate Lady)
Zosia flew with Carol after Carol stopped Koumba's flight and took the Zosia with her. She connected Carol with Manousos Oviedo per her request, but that resulted in cursing and angry hang-ups from both parties. (Grenade)
Carol got mad at her and the Others for storing Helen's memories prior to her Joining and demands that they delete all memories. She informed Carol that the Others are conserving electricity, thus the blackouts and the accidental shutting of Carol's power before shortly restoring it. After Carol's sarcastically requested a hand grenade, Zosia brought one "just in case". Carol invited her inside to drink. After some conversation, Carol got frustrated and pulled in the pin on the grenade, believing it to be a fake. Zosia tossed the grenade out a window and tackled Carol to the ground, protecting her from the explosion and receiving significant injuries. (Grenade)
During Zosia's recovery at the Saint Joan Medical Center, Carol drugged her with sodium thiopental in order to extract information from her, asking for a way to reverse the Joining. Instead, Zosia entered cardiac arrest but was resuscitated by the Others. (Please, Carol)
In episode 5, Zosia lay unconscious in the hospital before been removed by the Collective during their coordinated departure.
At the end of episode 7, Zosia comes back to meet Carol after she paints "Come Back" on the road. Zosia explains the Collective’s principles - shared living, rejection of ownership, noninterference with animals-and guides Carol through their daily life, including inviting her to sleep among them. Zosia facilitates Carol’s access to information while quietly acknowledging that the Others know Carol is still resisting. After Carol confronts her, Zosia responds not with argument but kisses her, and they spend the night together.
Later, Zosia tells Carol a visitor, Manousos, is on his way. After Carol and Manousos' meeting, Carol decides to go away with Zosia. At the ski resort, Zosia opens up about her former, unjoined self - a woman who once loved deeply and no longer exists. After Zosia tells Carol the Others have her frozen eggs and are working tirelessly to have Carol join them, Carol asks to go home. Zosia pilots a helicopter to bring Carol home, also while delivering an atom bomb in a steel container at Carol's request.
Personality[]
Zosia's personality before the Joining is unknown. After the Joining, she appears to be a calm, thoughtful individual as she represents the Others.

Trivia[]
- In a few Romance languages, sosia (named after a character from Amphitruo) is a word for a lookalike or Doppelgänger. She was chosen to be Carol's companion because she's a doppelgänger of Raban.
- Karolina Wydra, who plays Zosia, is Polish, and Zosia is a Polish name, a diminutive of Zofia. It's currently unknown as to why she was in Tangier, especially in the rough state she was in before she was sent to Albuquerque.
- The character was originally named Anna, then Yara, before creator Vince Gilligan changed it to Zosia, the name of a producer's cousin, to reflect actress Karolina Wydra's Polish heritage after she was cast.[1]
